p/First Attempt at a Logo

I am not a designer by any stretch of the imagination, but I had to create a logo as I am tired of seeing the default Rails red circle favicon. I simply used the FingerPaint font with some highlights. Created with the incredible and free InkScape application.

p/Why Another Social Media App?

Why build yet another social media app? Why not? I started this project to continue learning Ruby on Rails, to have a side project that I can switch to when my main project annoys me and I need a break from it. Another big reason is that many of the popular apps have shifted to totalitarianism and fascism. I do not want to provide content or advertising revenue to these sites. While they are free to espouse their hatred, I do not agree with it. I will not use their platforms any longer.

p/Learning New Tech

Instead of building and deploying the code by hand like the old days, I've learned how to use Docker and Kamal along with Github to manage and deploy Rails 8 application. I am very thankful for the tutorials from Ruby on Rails: https://youtu.be/j80I0yyx0w4 and https://youtu.be/sPUk9-1WVXI . Detailed post coming sometime next week.
